Scrap Metal Recycling NSW

How Our Scrap Metal Recycling Works

We make it simple. You bring in your scrap — or we come and collect it — and you get paid the same day. There's no sorting required on your end, no weighing, no guessing what it might be worth. We handle all of that. You just need the scrap.

We focus on six metals: copper, aluminium, air conditioners, used car batteries, compressors, and rims. By keeping the list tight, we know exactly what everything is worth and can pay you properly for it. No watered-down rates because we accept everything under the sun.

Hunter Scrap Metal covers Newcastle, the Hunter Valley, Central Coast, and up through Tamworth, Armidale, Taree, and Port Macquarie. We pick up from homes, farms, job sites, and businesses. If you're in NSW and you have metal to move, call us.

What We Buy

Six items. Here's what they include and where they usually come from:

Not sure if your item qualifies? Call us. A 30-second conversation saves you a wasted trip.

Drop-Off or Pickup — Your Choice

If you can bring the scrap to us, that's the fastest option. We're set up in the Newcastle area, with easy access for cars, utes, trailers, and small trucks. You drive in, we unload and weigh, you get paid.

If the load is too heavy, too bulky, or you simply can't get here — we come to you. We cover the whole Hunter region and extended areas. For remote locations, call and we'll let you know whether we're heading your way soon and if we can add you to a run.

Pricing & Payment

Scrap metal prices move with the commodity market. We update our rates regularly so what we offer reflects what the metal is actually worth today — not last month.

When you come in, we weigh each metal type separately and show you the breakdown. Payment is by EFT (bank transfer) and is processed the same day, before you leave the yard. We don't pay cash, in line with NSW scrap metal dealer regulations.

For large or recurring loads, call us for a rate conversation before you come in. We can often give you a fair estimate over the phone based on what you describe.

Why Recycle Scrap Metal?

The practical reason is the obvious one — you get paid for something you'd otherwise throw out or leave to rust. But the environmental side is worth knowing too.

Recycling aluminium uses around 95% less energy than smelting new aluminium from ore. Recycled copper is equally valuable because it requires significantly less processing than mining new copper deposits. When you recycle a car battery, the lead, acid, and plastic casing are all recovered and reused — keeping hazardous materials out of landfill.

Australia generates millions of tonnes of scrap metal each year. Most of it is recyclable. The more that goes through proper recycling channels, the less that ends up in tips or stockpiled on properties. It's a genuine loop — your old copper pipe becomes new electrical wire; your scrap aluminium frames become new products.

We're a NSW registered scrap metal dealer. Every transaction we process is recorded and compliant with the Scrap Metal Industry Act 2016, including mandatory ID requirements for all sellers.

What We Don't Take

To keep our service focused and safe, there are things we can't accept:

If something on your list isn't here and you're not sure, call us. We'll tell you directly.

FAQs — Scrap Metal Recycling

No. Bring it in and we'll identify it. If you're curious before you come, a quick description over the phone usually tells us enough. Colour is often the easiest guide — copper is reddish-orange, aluminium is silver-grey and light.

Yes. If you have copper and aluminium mixed together, that's fine. We separate it at the yard and weigh each type individually. You'll get a breakdown of what each portion was worth.

We weigh everything in front of you on calibrated scales and show you the calculation. Our rates are based on current commodity prices. You're welcome to look up live copper or aluminium spot prices before you come in so you have a reference point.

Yes. Under the NSW Scrap Metal Industry Act 2016, all sellers must provide valid photo ID. This applies to everyone — it's a legal requirement, not something we can waive. Bring a driver's licence or passport.

We work with businesses regularly. If you're generating scrap from construction, trades, manufacturing, or equipment maintenance, get in touch and we'll set up a regular arrangement. We can do scheduled pickups and give you a consistent rate.

No minimum. One copper pipe or a full trailer — we'll take it. Smaller loads obviously pay less, but there's no threshold you need to hit before we'll see you.
